QUEENSBURY — West Mountain Ski Area fell about $1.3 million short of revenue projections last ski season, a bitter pill from a warm winter that co-owner Spencer Montgomery still has a hard time swallowing.
But instead of pulling back, he and partners Mark Lo Bianco and Louis Posess invested more money this off-season, about $1.35 million more, to continue a plan that he hopes culminates in a ski-in, ski-out hotel, athletic club and pool and condos on the northwest side of the area.
Montgomery envisions transforming the underutilized area of the mountain into something like Ellicottville, New York’s Holiday Valley Ski Resort – a true resort that he said is “affordable, but with some polish on it.”
“They’ve got a really nice resort. It’s affordable, but you really feel like you’re at a ski resort when you’re there,” he said.
